A KOT (Kitchen Order Ticket) is the slip that tells the kitchen what a table ordered. A BOT (Bar Order Ticket) does the same for the bar. Routing each item to the right station avoids shouted orders and lost slips.
KOT vs BOT
- KOT: food items, sent to the kitchen printer or screen.
- BOT: drinks, sent to the bar printer or screen.
- One order, two tickets: a single table order can split automatically, so food goes to the kitchen and drinks to the bar.
Setup, step by step
- Group your menu: put each item in a category such as Starters, Mains, Beverages or Bakery.
- Map categories to stations: assign each category to a kitchen, bar or bakery printer.
- Add modifiers: spice level, no onion, extra cheese, so the kitchen sees them on the ticket.
- Set up tables: create your floor layout so waiters can open, merge and split tables.
- Test a full order: place a mixed food and drink order and confirm each ticket prints at the right station.
- Plan for reprints: decide who can void or reprint a KOT, and log it.
Common problems
- Items printing at the wrong station: check the category-to-printer mapping.
- Orders lost when the internet drops: use a POS that works offline and syncs later.
- Duplicate tickets: restrict reprints to a manager role.
