Choosing hospital management software is a long commitment: it holds patient records, billing and stock for years. This guide lists what to check before you sign, for hospitals, polyclinics and doctor clinics in Nepal.
HMIS means two things in Nepal
The government's Health Management Information System (HMIS) is a national reporting system. A hospital's own HMIS is the software that runs the facility day to day: patient registration, OPD/IPD, billing, lab and pharmacy. This guide is about the second one. If you must report to the national system, ask each vendor how their software exports the data you need.
Core modules to check
- Patient registration and EMR: a single patient record across OPD, IPD, lab and pharmacy.
- OPD and doctor scheduling: token queue, appointments and consultation billing.
- IPD, ward and bed management: admissions, bed status, transfers and discharge billing.
- Laboratory and pharmacy: results and dispensing connected to the patient bill, with batch and expiry tracking for medicines.
- Operation theatre (OT): scheduling and procedure charges.
- Accounting and HR: so the hospital's finance and staff payroll are not a separate system.
Nepal-specific requirements
- IRD CBMS billing: invoices should be IRD-approved and reported to CBMS. See how IRD CBMS billing works and what CBMS is.
- Health insurance claims: ask whether NHIB and SSF claim processing is built in, and ask to see a claim being prepared.
- BS calendar and Nepali language: patient-facing documents and fiscal-year reports should work in BS and Nepali.
- Offline operation: a power cut or weak internet should not stop registration and billing at the counter.
Questions to ask every vendor
- Which Nepali hospitals of my size use it today, and can I speak to one?
- Who supports us locally, and how fast do they respond?
- Can we export all our data if we leave?
- Is pricing per module, per user or per bed, and what is not included?
- How does it connect to our lab equipment, pharmacy and accounts?
Total cost, not just the licence
Add up implementation, data migration, staff training, hardware, yearly support and any per-user or per-module charges. A modular system lets a clinic start with OPD and billing and add IPD, OT and lab as it grows.
Where NitiERP fits
NitiERP's hospital management software covers patient registration, OPD/IPD, ward and bed management, laboratory, pharmacy and IRD-Approved CBMS billing, with accounting and HR modules in the same platform. It is modular, so a polyclinic can start small. Book a free demo and bring your own workflows for us to walk through.
